Cloverbud Project
B.C. 4-H Cloverbud members are boys and girls aged 6 - 8 years old. They must have reached their 6th birthday and have not reached their 9th birthday by January 1st. B.C. 4-H Cloverbud age members are only allowed to be registered in the Cloverbud project and are not eligible to be enrolled in any other B.C. 4-H projects. The Cloverbud units are very busy with fun filled activities that explore future projects of 4-H. Our club does one unit per year and not per child. For instance, this year all cloverbuds are doing unit 1. Next year all cloverbuds will do unit 2, and so forth.
The Cloverbud project is designed to be non-competitive, confidence building and group bonding. Cloverbuds are encouraged to do speeches and demonstrations, but as the Cloverbud project is non-competitive, the members will not be placed, but will recieve a set of written comments on ways to improve for next time. During the year there will be one or two field trips to learn about a project. During the Chilliwack Fair we will set up demos on different projects from other club leaders or members. Cloverbuds will attend one business meeting a month, one project night (where they will learn about one of the projects in their unit eg. Honeybee or Horticulture), and fundraisers. Instead of completing a record book like other members, Cloverbuds will make a scrapbook. There is some information to be filled in (which they will be helped with at project nights), but most of the book is a scrapbook on their year in 4-H. They can include any handouts, coloring pages, activity sheets, etc. they get at project nights. Lots of photos are always great as well. The Cloverbud project is designed to be fun and to introduce young members to 4-H in a gentle way so that when they turn 9 they go into a project knowing exactly what the project will be about and the kind of things they will learn. For each unit a member completes they will earn a badge at Awards Night at the end of the year.
