Dog Project
Projects available in the dog units are exploring the dog project, beginner novice, novice, beginner open, open, beginner utility, utility, raising a puppy and dog and litter. Members are assigned to a unit based on their capability and the level of training of their dog. This project provides the opportunity for members to learn about feeding, care, housing, showmanship, obedience training and leash showing. We also have agility training starting around May and competitions at the fairs.
Dog Project Units
It is required the members be able to do the following manouevres with their dogs. A reccomended score is needed to move onto the next unit.
Unit A- Exploring the Dog Project: passing score is 85
Heel on leash, stand for examination, Recall-from end of min. 15 ft. long line- no finish, Trick, sit on command, down on command.
Unit 1- Beginner Novice: passing score is 170
Heel on leash, figure 8 on leash, stand for examination, recall, long sit, long down.
Unit 2- Novice: passing score is 170
Heel on leash, figure 8, stand for examination, heel free off leash, long sit off leash, long down off leash.
Unit 3- Beginner Open: passing score is 170
Heel free, drop on recall, carry on flat, high jump, broad jump, long sit off leash, long down off leash.
Unit 4- Open: passing score is 170
Heel free, figure 8 off leash, drop on recall, retreive on flat, retrieve over high jump, broad jump, long sit off leash, long down off leash.
Unit 5- Beginner Utility: passing score is 85
Seek back-Handler drops glove at judges command, while dog is at heel. Once back at starting position, dog is sent back to retrieve glove., Signal exercise,moving stand for examination.
Unit 6- Untility: passing score of 170
Seek back, Scent discrimination, signal exercise, moving stand for examination, directed jump.
Unit 7- Raising a Puppy ( Senior Management)
Members must select, rear, and train a puppy which is between the ages of 7-12 weeks when obtained. In order to achieve in this unit, the puppy will be no less than 6 months of age and no more than 10 months of age at the completion of the project, the min. age may be 4 months.
Unit 8- Dog and Litter ( Senior Management)
A senior member shall select and care for a suitable, quality female dog, to be bred to a quality male. Both Sire and Dam must meet all health and breed requirements for breed of dog. Litter to be born within project year.
Unit 9- Senior Management
The member is to select a project of interest related to the dog project. Completion of one 10-12 month project is required for acheivement.

This list of units and requirements can be rather overwhelming to a person just starting out, but it takes people years to work up to higher levels. Most people never reach higher than a few units. I myself ony reached the second unit in 3 years. It is also only reasonable to expect to reach high units if you start training with a puppy.

-Sporting
Some examples are: Pointers, Retrievers, Setters, and Spaniels.
-Hounds
Some examples are: the Bassett, Beagle, Dchsund, Greyhound, and Irish Wolfhound.
-Working
Some examples are: Great Dane, Doberman Pinscher and St. Bernard
-Terriers
Some examples are: Miniature Schnauzer and Terriers.
-Toy
Some examples are: Maltese, Pomeranian, and toy Poodles.
-Non-Sporting
Some examples are: Dalmations, Bulldogs, Chow Chows, and Boston Terrier.
Herding
Some examples are: German Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, and Bearded Collie.
