Senior Management Project
Senior Management project is the advance skill units of each of the 4-H projects. It is for the most experienced of 4-H members and should be completed only after a member has achieved a high skill level in regular project work. The requirement for completion is 10 to 12 months of work. The last units of the project regulations outline some of the options for each project.
This is a list of the Senior Management Projects we have in our club in alphabetical order;
Cavy
Unit 4- Cavy Behaviour Project(Senior Management)
This project is for senior members interested in challenging themselves to higher level learning on the
subject of cavy behavior for a 10-12 month period. The object of this project is for members to do research and/or carry out a project related to cavy behavior: natural, situational, or learned behavior or a combination of the three. This unit is considered a senior management project and requires approval and must be evaluated by Youth and Community Developement Staff. Depending on the nature of the project, it may be exhibited or evaluated at the members home. Detailed record keeping is expected to be an integral part of this project.
Unit 5- Cavy Senior Management
This project is for senior members interested in challenging themselves to learn about any new aspect of
the cavy industry. Objectives are for members to do research and/or carry out a project of their choosing for 10-12 months. This unit is considered a Senior Management Project and requires approval and must be evaluated by Youth and Community Developement Staff. Depending on the nature of the project, it may be exhibited or evaluated at the members home. Detailed record keeping is expected to be an integral part of this project.
Possible Senior management Projects include:
- Designing and building a caviary
- Participating in an open show circuit with purebred cavies
- Examining the effect of genetics on coat color
- Comparisons of crosssbred and purebred cavies
- A study of breeds and their characteristics
- Parasites, diseases, and other health problems
- Any other topic of interest related to cavies
Dog
Unit 7- Raising a Puppy ( Senior Management)
Members must select, rear, and train a puppy which is between the ages of 7-12 weeks when obtained. In
order to achieve in this unit, the puppy will be no less than 6 months of age and no more than 10 months of age at the completion of the project, the min. age may be 4 months.
Unit 8- Dog and Litter ( Senior Management)
A senior member shall select and care for a suitable, quality female dog, to be bred to a quality male. Both Sire and Dam must meet all health and breed requirements for breed of dog. Litter to be born within project year.
Unit 9- Senior Management
The member is to select a project of interest related to the dog project. Completion of one 10-12 month
project is required for acheivement.
Photography
Unit 6- Mastering Photography ( Senior Management)
As this is a Senior Management project, it is required that an outline of your achievement goals be sent to the
BC 4-H office prior to beginning the project. Completion of one 10-12 month project is required for achievement day.
a) create a portfolio with a minimum of 30 photographs including:
i) A minimum of one photo story of five or more pictures.
ii) Two photos of night photography.
iii) Two photos of black and white photography, using the black and white setting on your camera.
iv) One example of each type of composition: framing your subject, leading lines, and portrait with landscape.
v) Two pictures comparing depth of field by changing the aperture setting.
vi) Two groups of five photos that display two different points of view at the same event.
vii) One picture using post processing software that combines two or more images.
viii) One landscape picture using post processing software to edit the background ( eg. change to a different
colour, use a filter effect, ect.)
b) Maintain a small notebook with a detailed record of each picture, which includes the date, photo number,
location, people in the photo, type of lighting if flash was used and any special settings used ( ISO, shutter speed, apeture ) for the purpose of learning how to improve picture taking skills.
c) Keep a photo file either in hard copy( with negative adn contact sheets) or on the computer ( organized into
folders and with all images saved with back up copies).
d) Prepare an exhibit of a minimum of 4 mounted pictures with a mimimum size of 8''
y 10'' for display at a fair or achievement day.
e) Prepare a print display or slide show for a public presentation, teaching a certain photography topic from the skills required to complete section a) above.

approval of your club leader and Youth and Community developement Specialist or assistant, develop one yourself. It is required that an outline of your achievement goal be sent to the BC 4-h office prior to beginning the project. Approval from Youth and Community Developement Staff is required to start this project. Completion of one 10-12 month project is required for achievement day.

Rabbit
Unit 8- Marketable Rabbit Raising( Senior Management)
Member to raise a minimum of three viable litters of young rabbits from birth to weaning age for home use or
for sale. Exhibiting at acheivement day is not required, but members are encouraged to display and/or explain project to other members.
Unit 9- Advanced Skill( Senior Management)
The member is to select upon approval of the club leader, a project of interest to the member related to the rabbit project. Approval from Youth and Development Staff is required to start this project. Senior Management projects must have records kept for 10-12 months.

- Skinning and pelting rabbits
- Participating in ann open circuit with purebred rabbits
- Effects of genetics on coat color
- Rabbit agility
